Narrow-leaved Helleborine (Cephalanthera longifolia)

One of our special Forest plants flowers in May and can be surprisingly difficult to see in dappled shade.

The Narrow-leaved Helleborine is a botanical treasure that exudes elegance. Its slender, lance-shaped leaves give rise to its common name, perfectly complementing the grace of its flowers. The inflorescence consists of delicate, white or pale pink blossoms, with a hint of yellow or green in the center. These intricate blooms are both enchanting and visually captivating, making the Narrow-leaved Helleborine a true gem of the plant kingdom.

The Narrow-leaved Helleborine holds ecological importance as a nectar source for various insect species. Its elegant flowers serve as landing platforms for pollinators, allowing for efficient transfer of pollen and supporting the orchid’s reproductive success. Additionally, this species contributes to biodiversity by providing a habitat for numerous microorganisms, fungi, and other small organisms in its root system.
