A tangle of legs!

One of the many joys of walking in the forest is the sometimes unpredictable events of nature that can often be overlooked by the more casual eye. With the land owners permission the WFSG were surveying a quiet area of the forest off the beaten track. What started out as a ‘normal’ survey for species records wasn’t looking too fruitful during the first hour or so.

All that changed with the discovery of a male Green Huntsman Spider – Micrommata virescens. The excitment began to build when a female was discovered very close by. The crème de la crème came however when both male and female were found clasped together, in a tangle of legs, possibly in the late stages of mating.
